Mr. Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), led the closing session of the committee drafting technical proposals to revive Algeria’s mobile phone assembly, production, and development industry. Held at the Sheraton Hotel in Algiers, this milestone event marks a significant step towards realizing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision for the sector.
The initiative was launched following a pivotal meeting in May 2024 between Mr. Moula and key ministers, including those of Industry, Trade, and Telecommunications, aimed at restoring Algeria’s presence in the global telecommunications market. The goal is not only to assemble mobile devices but also to foster innovation and strategic development in mobile technology.
Collaborative Effort Spanning Five Months
For the past five months, major stakeholders from Algeria’s electronics and mobile phone sectors have collaborated to provide valuable input. Industry leaders, manufacturers, and technology experts pooled their expertise to help shape the technical roadmap for Algeria’s mobile phone sector. International and national consultants also contributed, ensuring that cutting-edge research and development (R&D) would be integrated into the production process to boost Algeria’s competitiveness and sustainability.
Expert Contributions and Visionary Leadership
The closing session featured contributions from notable figures, including Dr. Belkacem Haba, a distinguished Algerian researcher in electronics and mobile technologies. Dr. Haba’s insights, along with those of other experts, underscored the importance of innovation in shaping the future of the mobile phone industry in Algeria. The committee’s efforts are set to establish a strong foundation for the country’s long-term success in telecommunications manufacturing.
