Muscat: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced the launch of an auction for distinctive telecommunications numbers, specifically from the special category starting with 9.
This marks the first time that numbers from the prestigious 9-category, classified as diamond and gold, will be included in the auction. The bidding process is being conducted in collaboration with Oman’s major telecom providers, Omantel and Ooredoo.
The auction follows the regulations outlined in the Authority’s Decision No. (1152/2/3/4-22), which governs the allocation of telecommunications numbers. Under these rules, diamond and gold numbers are allocated through a bidding process, with specific controls in place as stipulated in the decision.
Proceeds from the auction will be directed towards charitable causes, as outlined in Article (16) of the Telecommunications Regulatory Law and Article (49) of its Executive Regulations. The TRA is responsible for determining the fees for these distinctive numbers, collecting the proceeds, and ensuring they are donated to charitable bodies and institutions.
