Batelco Partners with Qareeb Data Centers to Establish Bahrain’s First White Space Data Center

Batelco, a member of the Beyon Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Qareeb Data Centers W.L.L. during the Gateway Gulf Investment Forum 2024. The agreement was signed by Batelco CEO Maitham Abdulla and Qareeb Data Centers Chief Strategy Officer Annemarie Van Zadelhoff, with officials from both companies present.

This collaboration aims to develop Bahrain’s first White Space Data Centre as part of Beyon’s Data Oasis project, which follows Beyon’s significant investment in global connectivity and digital infrastructure announced last year. This initiative is poised to become the largest technology hub in Bahrain.

Under the MoU, Batelco and Qareeb Data Centers will explore various activities, including the establishment and delivery of colocation services within Bahrain and the implementation of data center initiatives in the region. The partnership will also assess the feasibility of providing managed digital services to identified customers, in addition to the existing service offerings from both parties.

Commenting on the signing, Batelco CEO Maitham Abdulla stated, “In line with our strategy to enhance our presence in the digital infrastructure space, particularly in the data center market, we are actively seeking partnerships that can support these initiatives.” He added, “The collaboration with Qareeb aligns perfectly with Batelco’s strategic goals as we work to create an agile and flexible business model to meet the rising demand for digital infrastructure in the region.”

Annemarie Van Zadelhoff, Chief Strategy Officer of Qareeb Data Centers, remarked, “The data center market is experiencing substantial growth regionally, with a notable increase in customer demands, especially for local edge colocation facilities. We are thrilled to partner with Batelco, providing an excellent foundation for our regional expansion plans.”
