Lisbon, Portugal – Morocco and Portugal have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their digital partnership, with a focus on advancing public sector digitalization and fostering innovation. This renewed collaboration was discussed at the Web Summit in Lisbon between Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Morocco’s Deputy Minister for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, and Alberto Rodrigues da Silva, Portugal’s Secretary of State for Modernization and Digitalization.   

The meeting highlighted both countries’ ambitions in digital transformation and their efforts to develop thriving tech sectors. Morocco’s “Digital 2030” strategy, a national plan to foster a competitive digital economy, was a key topic of discussion.

“These initiatives reflect Morocco’s vision to become a regional digital hub, driving socio-economic progress through technological innovation,” stated the report, emphasizing Morocco’s commitment to digital advancement.

Minister Seghrouchni also outlined Morocco’s efforts to support digital startups, enhance tech-driven education, and expand scientific research capabilities. Key projects, such as the development of large language models and the “AI Factory” in Morocco, demonstrate the country’s commitment to AI and digital innovation.

Portugal’s Secretary of State, Rodrigues da Silva, shared insights into Portugal’s progress in digital government, including the country’s Digital Transition Action Plan. This initiative aims to modernize public services and create a supportive environment for startups and tech companies.
