Mawlawi Najibullah Hayat Haqqani, Acting Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Afghanistan, emphasized the importance of regulatory adherence for the growth of the country’s telecommunications sector during a meeting with MTN Afghanistan officials.
The meeting, which included Azmi Meqati, CEO of Investcom Group, focused on MTN’s performance, service quality, and SIM card registration processes in Afghanistan. Minister Haqqani stressed the need for collaboration in resolving operational issues and ensuring that telecommunications companies comply with ministry policies.
Minister Haqqani reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the sector while ensuring that all companies align their operations with the ministry’s standards. MTN officials thanked the ministry for its assistance, particularly in legal and operational matters, and noted progress in aligning services, including SIM card operations, with Afghanistan’s legal framework.
Jamal Ramadan, COO of MTN Afghanistan, acknowledged the ministry’s transparency during the company’s share transfer process and promised to invest in improving network infrastructure and service quality starting next year. The meeting also saw participation from Hisham Ramadan, MTN Afghanistan’s President, and Abdul Malik Qazizada, Head of Government and Regulatory Affairs, who reiterated their commitment to adhering to industry standards and enhancing customer services.
