Jazz Expands Digital Pakistan Fellowship Programme to LUMS to Empower Students in Tech Journalism

Jazz has extended its Digital Pakistan Fellowship Programme to the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) to engage students in shaping the digital narrative and advancing tech journalism in Pakistan. Through this fellowship, students will contribute to raising awareness about the transformative power of technology and help realize the vision of a Digital Pakistan.

The fellowship aims to provide a platform for young people to lead meaningful conversations around technology, innovation, and societal progress. It encourages students to develop critical perspectives and educate the public on technology’s role in Pakistan’s development, showcasing the country’s potential on the global stage.

An official memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Jazz and LUMS during a ceremony at LUMS on Wednesday. This partnership builds on Jazz’s previous collaborations with leading academic institutions like the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Beaconhouse National University (BNU), and Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), aimed at promoting tech-based innovation and storytelling.

To date, the Digital Pakistan Fellowship Programme has empowered over 90 fellows, 78% of whom are women, in the field of tech journalism. Two citizen journalism cohorts have trained over 1,200 creators, providing more than 2,500 hours of training. By expanding the program to LUMS, Jazz continues its mission to drive innovation and inspire the youth to contribute to Pakistan’s digital transformation.

Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz, expressed, “By empowering students to lead the discourse on technology and innovation, we aim to inspire narratives that reflect Pakistan’s readiness to embrace a tech-driven future. This initiative aligns with Jazz’s broader vision to enable youth to drive meaningful change through the power of technology.”

Dr. Ali Cheema, Vice Chancellor of LUMS, commented, “At LUMS, we believe education is not just about acquiring knowledge but fostering the ability to think critically and engage meaningfully with the challenges of our time. This partnership with Jazz provides our students with the opportunity to explore the transformative role of technology and lead conversations that contribute to a progressive and digitally empowered Pakistan.”

Through the programme, students will have the opportunity to create and amplify narratives about technology across popular platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Jazz’s vision is to inspire a new generation of storytellers who can articulate the transformative role of technology in fostering progress and innovation.
