African Cybersecurity Forum Opens in Rabat, Focuses on AI and Cloud Security

The African Cybersecurity Forum opened in Rabat on Monday, bringing together academics, government officials, and industry leaders to address cybersecurity challenges across the continent. Held under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Trusted Cloud: A Pillar for Strengthening Cybersecurity,” the event runs through February 5.

Organized by Morocco’s General Directorate of Information Systems Security (DGSSI), the forum features key participants from Moroccan and international cybersecurity agencies, along with government and industry representatives. Among the opening ceremony attendees were Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and various ministers involved in youth, defense, budget, and digital transition.

The forum aims to tackle pressing cybersecurity challenges in Africa, particularly those affecting critical industries such as oil and gas, as well as major global events like the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games. Workshops will explore AI-driven threat detection, predictive analytics, and security automation, while also focusing on proactive risk management strategies.

Minister Abdellatif Loudiyi emphasized Morocco’s commitment to advancing African cyber cooperation, underscoring the country’s leadership in digital security partnerships across the continent. Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni highlighted the importance of investing in AI and IoT systems to bolster cybersecurity and secure the future of Africa’s digital transformation.

The event also underscores Morocco’s rising role in cybersecurity, with the country recently ranking among the top five in the Arab world for cybersecurity in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI), with a notable improvement in its cybersecurity score.
