Batelco, the parent company of Beyon Group and Qareeb Data Centres, has signed a heads of terms contract for the development of Bahrain’s first White Space Data Centre at the Capacity Middle East event. The facility, currently under construction at Beyon Data Oasis, is expected to be a groundbreaking space for Bahrain, positioning it as a major technology hub.
The new data centre aligns with Batelco’s strategy to enhance its infrastructure and support the growing demand for colocation services in the region. This move follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed during the Gateway Gulf Forum in November 2024.
Hani Askar, Batelco’s Chief Global Business Officer, described the development as a key milestone towards creating the largest technology hub in Bahrain. He expressed excitement about the progress made so far and anticipation for finalizing plans in the coming months.
Qareeb’s Chief Strategy Officer, Annemarie Van Zadelhoff, highlighted the importance of the collaboration, noting that the White Space Data Centre will offer in-demand colocation services to major customers across the Middle East and beyond. The development is expected to play a significant role in meeting the region’s growing need for data infrastructure.
