Sri Lanka and Oracle Discuss Digital Transformation and Cloud Infrastructure at World Governments Summit

Sri Lanka’s President, Anura Disanayake, met with Oracle Corporation’s Executive Vice President, Mike Sicilia, at the World Governments Summit in Dubai to discuss the establishment of a sovereign cloud region and a digital transformation hub in Colombo’s Port City. The meeting focused on advancing Sri Lanka’s digital transformation through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), adoption of fintech services, and the creation of a national data system.

President Disanayake proposed that Oracle establish a sovereign cloud region in Sri Lanka to host government applications and e-governance services, ensuring data sovereignty and regulatory compliance. Additionally, they discussed the potential for launching fintech and digital payment solutions to transition Sri Lanka to a cashless economy.

Disanayake also invited Oracle to set up a Digital Transformation Hub in Colombo Port City, envisioned as South Asia’s AI and Cloud Hub. Mike Sicilia expressed Oracle’s strong interest in the proposal and the potential for Oracle to play a significant role in Sri Lanka’s digital future, with plans for further collaboration, including sending a team to Sri Lanka to facilitate the initiative.

The discussions reflect Sri Lanka’s commitment to becoming a leader in AI-driven solutions and digital innovation, positioning the country as a key player in the region’s digital economy.
