Afghanistan’s Acting Minister of Communications, Maulvi Najibullah Hayat Haqqani, met with Wang Ji Shen, the Director General of Chinese MCC, to discuss potential cooperation in telecommunications, technology, and artificial intelligence aimed at improving services and development at the Mes Aynak copper mine.

During the meeting, both parties explored opportunities for bilateral collaboration in advancing Afghanistan’s technological landscape, with a focus on integrating AI to enhance operations. Minister Haqqani emphasized the importance of accelerating Afghanistan’s technological progress through cooperation with neighboring countries, highlighting AI’s rapid global development and its potential to improve services if leveraged effectively.

The head of the Chinese MCC company, which holds the contract for the Mes Aynak copper mine, expressed interest in enhancing telecommunications services at the mine, one of the largest mining projects in the world, located in Logar province. To facilitate this, Afghan workers have been sent to China for training in advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence. The aim is to improve the mine’s management and development once the training is complete.

The meeting concluded with assurances from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Communications that the telecommunications issues at the Mes Aynak site would be addressed promptly.
