SOHAR Port and Freezone has launched a specialized training program focused on Port Community Systems (PCS) to advance Oman’s logistics digitalization. In collaboration with the International Port Community Systems Association (IPCSA), this four-day masterclass aims to provide in-depth training for terminal operators and government stakeholders on designing, implementing, and governing integrated PCS solutions.
This groundbreaking initiative, the first of its kind in the region, is designed to enhance digital skills across the port community and ensure alignment with global standards in trade facilitation. The program covers PCS concepts, stakeholder engagement, governance frameworks, modern IT architectures, resilience strategies, and international standards.
The initiative is aligned with the National Port Community System Project, led by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, which aims to improve digital efficiency across Oman’s ports.
His Excellency Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al-Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, emphasized that PCS is a crucial component of the Oman Logistics Strategy 2040. “The PCS system will enhance Oman’s competitiveness, streamline trade, and improve operational efficiency by digitizing the supply chain,” he said. The system will also integrate automated cargo handling tools such as cranes, conveyors, and robots, along with real-time shipment tracking using IoT and AI-powered predictive maintenance.
Jasim Al Yamani, VP of Technology at SOHAR Port and Freezone, highlighted the importance of the program in fostering digital transformation. “This Masterclass will equip our people with the expertise to drive digital change and strengthen collaboration, ensuring SOHAR remains a leader in smart, secure, and sustainable trade.”
Through this initiative, SOHAR Port and Freezone is positioning itself and Oman as a regional leader in tech-driven, connected trade.
