Meta has introduced new ‘teen accounts’ for Instagram, developed in collaboration with the UAE’s Digital Wellbeing Council—the first initiative of its kind in the region. These accounts incorporate advanced algorithms to limit teens’ exposure to harmful content and provide enhanced privacy settings and parental controls, fostering a safer digital space for young users.
At the launch event, Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, highlighted the UAE’s commitment to digital wellbeing, emphasizing the importance of protecting future generations and promoting responsible technology use. He underscored that digital wellbeing extends beyond infrastructure to ensuring the digital realm remains a platform for growth and leadership.
To support parents, Meta and the Council released a user guide encouraging open dialogue about online safety. The event also featured a workshop and policy roundtable focused on future regulations and strengthening digital safety frameworks.
