Algeria announced plans to introduce 40 new digital specialties in its vocational training system starting next academic year. Minister of Vocational Training and Education, Yacine El Mahdi Oualid, unveiled the initiative during the “New Careers in the Field of Information Technology” event held on June 17. These programs will be implemented across training institutes and centers of excellence nationwide to better align professional training with the country’s economic needs, particularly in fast-growing technology sectors.
This reform is part of Algeria’s National Digital Transformation Strategy (SNTN), which aims to train 500,000 ICT specialists and reduce brain drain by 40% by 2030. The initiative seeks to diversify Algeria’s hydrocarbon-dependent economy by nurturing local talent in digital technologies and improving graduate employability through relevant digital skills.
At the event, several cooperation agreements were signed to enhance training and apprenticeship programs, including partnerships with the National Insurance Company (SAA), telecom operator Mobilis, and online training provider Beeform Academy. These collaborations will strengthen the link between public institutions, private sector players, and training providers.
Ultimately, the reform targets youth employment growth, the reinforcement of Algeria’s digital ecosystem, and the development of a skilled workforce to support the country’s ambitions of becoming a regional digital skills hub and meeting domestic demand for ICT professionals.
