Morocco and UNDP Partner to Advance Inclusive Digital Transformation in Arab States and Africa

Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed an agreement to deepen cooperation in promoting inclusive digital transformation across the Arab States and African regions. Announced during the National Conference on Artificial Intelligence, the partnership supports strengthening digital public services, responsible AI use, and building institutional and regulatory frameworks aligned with sustainable development goals.

Anchored in the recently launched Digital for Sustainable Development Hub, supported by UNDP, the collaboration builds on Morocco’s leadership in digital governance, AI, and data science. It aims to foster a future-oriented, resilient digital ecosystem that is inclusive and capable of delivering meaningful impact across regions.

Marina Walter, Deputy Director of UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Arab States, highlighted Morocco’s commitment to advancing its national digital agenda and shaping regional digital cooperation that promotes sustainable development and regional integration.

The partnership recognizes that while internet penetration has grown significantly—reaching over 70% in the Arab region and nearly 40% in Africa—benefits remain uneven due to fragmented infrastructure, limited AI access, underinvestment, and inconsistent regulations.

This MoU marks a milestone in Morocco’s digital transition strategy and UNDP’s global mission to foster equitable, secure, and development-driven digital cooperation, reaffirming Morocco’s role as a regional hub for inclusive, rights-based digital transformation aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
