Algeria plans to modernize its public works sector by introducing a digital portal and centralized system to oversee infrastructure projects nationwide. Announced on July 19 by the Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, the system aims to track real-time progress, detect delays, identify cost overruns, and enhance transparency in public investment.
Minister Lakhdar Rekhroukh explained that the platform will act as a real-time dashboard accessible at central and local government levels, providing instant snapshots of project phases to support faster decision-making and improve implementation efficiency.
Developed by the French Treasury’s National Equipment Fund for Development (CNED), the system integrates performance indicators with automated reporting and links expenditures directly to progress on site. This enables administrators, engineers, financial controllers, and officials to promptly address delays and budget issues.
This digital initiative aligns with Algeria’s broader efforts to digitize public procurement and address longstanding challenges such as project delays, cost inflation, and lack of monitoring transparency. By centralizing and continuously updating project data, the platform is expected to improve cost control, adherence to timelines, and public fund accountability, strengthening investment governance and infrastructure quality.
