Colombo — In a landmark step toward modernizing Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has officially integrated with GovPay, the government’s national digital payment platform. This initiative is set to deliver seamless, secure, and hassle-free online payments for a range of SLTDA services, enhancing efficiency across the tourism ecosystem.
As tourism remains central to Sri Lanka’s economic revival, the adoption of GovPay will streamline administrative processes, reduce payment delays, and increase transparency. The move supports the government’s broader vision of positioning Sri Lanka as a world-class tourist destination powered by digital innovation.
The integration enables operators across the country to digitally pay the Tourism Development Levy — including underpayments, defaults, and late payments — through banks’ internet or mobile banking platforms and fintech apps connected to GovPay. Currently, 14 banks including Bank of Ceylon, Commercial Bank, HNB, and People’s Bank, alongside 6 fintech apps such as FriMi, Genie, and iPay, are supporting SLTDA payments.
Launched in February 2025 under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, GovPay is a joint initiative by the Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) and LankaPay, backed by the Ministry of Digital Economy. Since its debut, GovPay has facilitated payments for 1,773 government services with a total transaction value exceeding Rs. 110 million. SLTDA becomes the 134th institution to join the platform.
By embracing digital payments, SLTDA is strengthening the foundations of a more efficient, transparent, and future-ready tourism sector while contributing to the nation’s digital economy goals.
