Qatar’s CRA Launches ‘Caller Name Presentation’ Initiative to Curb Fraudulent Calls

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has officially launched the first phase of its Caller Name Presentation (CNAP) initiative, in collaboration with Ooredoo Qatar, Vodafone Qatar, and other national authorities. The program aims to protect consumers from fraudulent calls, enhance public trust in telecom services, and support the country’s digital security goals under Qatar National Vision 2030.

Under CNAP, both telecom operators will display the verified name of legal entities—including government ministries, private firms, banks, hospitals, educational institutions, and NGOs—during fixed and mobile voice calls to consumers. This enables users to identify legitimate callers and avoid scams that impersonate official entities to obtain personal or financial data.

The initiative, rolled out in stages, will first apply to fixed-line numbers of registered entities and later expand to mobile business numbers. The service will automatically register all eligible entities, though some may opt out under defined conditions. CNAP will not apply to international calls, roaming users, or personal mobile and residential lines.

Engineer Ahmad bin Abdulla AlMuslemani, President of CRA, said the initiative lays the groundwork for “safe and trusted communication in Qatar,” emphasizing CRA’s proactive approach to consumer protection and cybersecurity.

Sheikh Ali bin Jabor bin Mohammad Al-Thani, CEO of Ooredoo Qatar, affirmed the company’s commitment to national digital transformation efforts, while Sheikh Hamad Abdulla Jassim Al-Thani, CEO of Vodafone Qatar, highlighted the project as a milestone in advancing customer safety and regulatory compliance.

By integrating CNAP into national telecom infrastructure, Qatar is taking a significant step toward ensuring secure, transparent, and fraud-resistant communication across public and private sectors.
