Cairo, Egypt — Egypt has earned the Regional Leadership Award in Internet Domains Development from the Arab Organization for Communication and Information Technologies, recognizing the country’s exceptional progress in Internet infrastructure and digital transformation. The award was presented to the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) during the Sixth Internet Protocol (IPv6) International Forum, held as part of the Conference of Telecommunications Sector Regulators.
This recognition underscores Egypt’s leadership in implementing its National Strategy for IPv6 adoption, making it one of the first nations in the Arab and African regions to transition to the latest Internet Protocol standards. Through this effort, Egypt has reinforced its role as a regional hub for digital innovation and connectivity.
The NTRA’s implementation of the first phase of the IPv6 Executive Plan has already migrated over seven million web pages from IPv4 to IPv6. This major upgrade enhances network security, expands address capacity, and improves service quality—laying the groundwork for advanced technologies such as 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), smart vehicles, and remote metering systems.
Egypt’s roadmap aims for full IPv6 deployment by 2030, aligning with the nation’s broader digital infrastructure strategy. This milestone not only celebrates the government’s continued efforts to modernize Egypt’s digital ecosystem but also reaffirms its commitment to leading technological advancement and connectivity across the region.
