Qatar Processes $4.58 Billion in Digital Payments in September: QCB Report

Doha — Qatar’s digital payments ecosystem continued to expand in September 2025, processing 55.08 million transactions worth QR16.68 billion ($4.58 billion) through the Qatar Payment System (QPS), according to data released by the Qatar Central Bank (QCB).

The QPS, built on real-time gross settlement (RTGS) and electronic straight-through processing (e-STP) frameworks, underpins the country’s growing digital economy by ensuring fast, secure, and seamless financial transactions.

Breakdown of Transactions

  • Point-of-sale (POS) transactions accounted for 51% of total activity, recording 42.43 million transactions valued at QR8.46 billion.
  • E-commerce represented 25%, with 10.09 million transactions totaling QR4.23 billion.
  • Fawran, Qatar’s instant payment service, made up 22%, with 2.21 million transactions valued at QR3.69 billion and 3.39 million registered accounts.
  • Qatar Mobile Payment (QMP) contributed 2%, processing 359,462 transactions worth QR294.63 million, supported by 1.21 million registered wallets.

Launched in 2020, QMP allows individuals and businesses to make instant fund transfers between e-wallets, while Fawran facilitates real-time, secure domestic transfers — both reflecting Qatar’s steady shift toward cashless payments and financial innovation.

The data underscores Qatar’s commitment to developing a robust, digital-first financial ecosystem, aligning with its broader goals for financial inclusion and economic diversification under Qatar National Vision 2030.
