Rabat — October 31, 2025:
Morocco has officially granted 5G operating licenses to its three leading telecommunications operators — Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc, and inwi — paving the way for the country’s long-awaited commercial 5G rollout starting November 2025.
Accelerating Digital Connectivity
The decision, approved by the Council of Government and coordinated by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT), authorizes each operator to build and operate public 5G mobile networks under Morocco’s telecom framework. The licenses were awarded following a competitive selection process aimed at ensuring strong investment commitments and nationwide coverage.
The initial 5G deployment will begin in major cities and airports, with the government targeting 25% population coverage by the end of 2026 and 70% by 2030.
Major Investments Ahead
Collectively, the three operators are expected to invest nearly MAD 40 billion (USD 3.9 billion) in infrastructure upgrades — spanning fiber optic expansion, antenna installations, data centers, and digital platforms — to enable faster and more reliable connectivity.
Strategic Timing for Global Events
The rollout coincides with Morocco’s preparations to host two major international sporting events — the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup — where seamless, high-speed mobile connectivity will be vital for event operations, media broadcasting, and tourism services.
This milestone marks a pivotal step in Morocco’s digital transformation, strengthening its position as a regional technology leader and advancing its ambition to deliver world-class connectivity and smart infrastructure across the Kingdom.
