Nepal Telecom Expands GSM and FTTH User Base as Broadband Growth Continues

Nepal Telecom (NTC) continues to expand its customer base across mobile and fixed services, strengthening its position as the country’s leading telecommunications provider. According to the latest data from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), the state-backed operator now serves more than 15.8 million users across its GSM mobile, broadband, and fixed-line services.

Officially known as Nepal Doorsanchar Company Ltd., NTC remains majority-owned by the Government of Nepal and operates as a public company. The operator provides GSM mobile services, 4G and 3G mobile broadband, FTTH broadband under the NT Fiber brand, IPTV services through NT TV, and legacy PSTN connections.

As of Ashoj 2082, NTC’s GSM mobile user base stands at more than 15.4 million subscribers, giving the company a 53.2 percent market share in cellular voice services. In mobile broadband, NTC serves over 15 million users across 4G and 3G networks, with 4G users accounting for the vast majority at approximately 14.3 million. The continued expansion of 4G has led to a steady decline in 3G subscriptions.

Fixed broadband services are also growing. NTC’s FTTH service is now available in all 77 districts of Nepal and serves more than 333,000 users. The service bundles high-speed fiber internet with voice and IPTV, contributing to its increasing popularity nationwide. In addition, the operator maintains a smaller fixed wireless broadband base through Namaste WiFi.

Overall, NTC commands a 56.03 percent market share in mobile broadband, underlining its dominance in Nepal’s digital connectivity landscape. The company is now preparing for the launch of 5G services, with initial deployments planned for Kathmandu and Pokhara, marking the next phase of network evolution in the country.
