Rabat Launches ‘Rabat Patrimoine’ App to Digitally Showcase UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Rabat has launched Rabat Patrimoine, a new multilingual mobile application designed to digitally showcase the Moroccan capital’s UNESCO World Heritage sites and make its cultural heritage more accessible to the public. Developed by the Société de Développement Régional Rabat Région Patrimoine Historique (RRPH), the app connects technology with preservation efforts, allowing users to explore Rabat’s history beyond traditional guided tours.

Available for free on iOS, Android, and the web, the platform targets residents, tourists, students, and cultural enthusiasts. It highlights the eight UNESCO-listed components of Rabat through curated walking routes supported by audio narratives, interactive maps, and geolocated content. Users can choose between a UNESCO-focused circuit or a broader itinerary that traces the city’s historic and urban development.

Beyond the main routes, Rabat Patrimoine offers four themed circuits, including a grand tour of major landmarks, a museum and cultural institutions route, a natural heritage path showcasing gardens and green spaces, and an architectural circuit exploring Rabat’s urban evolution. The app is available in Arabic, French, English, and Spanish, reflecting the city’s international outlook.

Launched within a broader cultural strategy supported by King Mohammed VI, the initiative aligns with Rabat’s vision as an open and globally connected cultural capital. Since its establishment in 2023, RRPH has been tasked with coordinating the protection, management, and promotion of the city’s historic assets. With Rabat Patrimoine, Rabat is embracing smart heritage mediation, using digital tools to preserve its past while reimagining how it is shared with the public.
