Algerian Fintech Gifty Simplifies Daily Payments

Algerian fintech startup Gifty is introducing a unified digital payments platform designed to simplify everyday financial transactions in a market that remains largely dependent on cash.

The platform enables users to pay utility bills, including electricity, gas, water, internet subscriptions and mobile top-ups, directly from a single mobile application. In addition, the app provides access to millions of e-commerce products and connects users with more than 100 partner retailers across Algeria.

Founded in 2023 by entrepreneur Abderrahmane Anemiche, the Algiers-based startup aims to address the country’s heavy reliance on cash transactions by offering an accessible digital alternative for both consumers and merchants.

According to Anemiche, the vision behind the platform is to create a simple and flexible financial service capable of adapting quickly to market needs. He noted that the company ultimately aims to evolve into a neobank, expanding its services beyond payments and digital commerce.

The application is available on Android, Apple iOS and Huawei AppGallery, and has already recorded more than 100,000 downloads on the Google Play Store. Gifty operates through a digital wallet model, allowing users to fund their accounts using local bank cards or through a network of partner retail outlets.

This hybrid model combines digital services with a physical distribution network, enabling the company to reach customers who may have limited access to traditional banking services while encouraging wider adoption of digital payments.

In addition to everyday payments, Gifty has introduced digital gifting features, allowing users to send credit to friends and family with personalised images, videos or GIFs, transforming financial transfers into more interactive experiences.

The company is also expanding into business-to-business services, offering tools such as multi-brand gift cards, loyalty programmes and incentive platforms. Businesses can distribute digital rewards and monitor campaign performance through analytics dashboards.

With financial inclusion remaining a major challenge across Africa, Gifty represents a growing wave of regional fintech innovators seeking to bridge gaps in traditional banking infrastructure. The platform aims to position itself as a gateway to Algeria’s digital economy by integrating commerce, public services and digital transactions into a single mobile ecosystem.
