Algerie Télécom announced on Saturday that it is optimizing its digital payment platform, BaridiMob, to enhance user experience and operational efficiency. This move follows recent disruptions affecting some transactions on the app. The company issued a formal apology to users and assured that these issues would be resolved promptly.
In an official statement, Algerie Télécom clarified that while the majority of transactions were processed successfully, certain operations experienced accounting delays due to system updates. The company emphasized that these transactions would be reflected in user accounts once the optimization process is completed. Algerie Télécom reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery and restoring full functionality as quickly as possible.
During a press conference led by Louai Zaidi, the Director General of Algerie Télécom, the causes of the disturbances were explained. Zaidi stated that the issues were a result of system updates aimed at boosting the platform’s operational performance, specifically impacting inter-account transfers. Other services such as mobile top-ups, bill payments, and internet recharge remained fully functional. Zaidi reassured customers that all transactions made during the maintenance period would be reflected in accounts no later than the upcoming Tuesday.
Zaidi also emphasized the importance of these upgrades in handling the growing user base and increasing transaction volumes. “This enhancement will ensure BaridiMob can handle more traffic while maintaining high performance. Additional upgrades will be introduced throughout the year, including new digital services for easier access to Algerie Télécom offerings,” he said.
Security concerns were also addressed, with Zaidi reassuring users that all accounting operations are securely recorded and will be processed once the system update is complete.
Abdelnour Soltani, Director of Postal Cash Management, provided valuable statistics, revealing that BaridiMob’s user base grew from 3.4 million at the end of 2023 to 4.725 million by the end of 2024. The platform processed 3.5 million inter-account transfers worth 46 billion Algerian dinars in December, in addition to 5.5 million e-commerce transactions valued at 4 billion dinars. These figures demonstrate the need for ongoing technical improvements to support the platform’s growing demand.
In a separate update, the Algerian Consumer Protection Organization addressed concerns over unauthorized deductions from postal accounts, which were attributed to a technical malfunction being resolved. The organization reassured users that these amounts were not disbursed and that data corrections were underway. They also emphasized that the situation was under control and there was no cause for concern.
Algerie Télécom concluded the press briefing by reiterating its commitment to further expanding the BaridiMob platform with new features aimed at simplifying digital transactions and enhancing the overall user experience. The company stressed that these technical refinements are part of its long-term vision to improve Algeria’s digital financial infrastructure, ensuring the highest standards of reliability and security for all users.
