Tajikistan Ranks Low in Global Internet Speed Index, Lagging Behind Regional Neighbors

Tajikistan ranks 121st out of 155 countries in the Speedtest Global Index for fixed (wired) internet speeds during the period from September to November 2024. The country’s average download speed was recorded at 30.66 Mbps, significantly lower than the global average of 95 Mbps.

Tajikistan’s internet speed performance falls behind its regional neighbors: Uzbekistan ranks 73rd with an average speed of 79 Mbps, Kyrgyzstan holds the 84th position at 73 Mbps, and Kazakhstan ranks 89th with 66 Mbps.

Globally, the top leaders in fixed internet speed are Singapore (324 Mbps), Hong Kong (302 Mbps), and the UAE (301 Mbps), highlighting the gap between Tajikistan and the highest-performing nations.

For mobile internet speeds, Tajikistan’s ranking remains unclear for the September–November 2024 period, with no data available. However, as of February 2024, Tajikistan ranked 139th among 143 countries, and by May 2024, it had dropped to 143rd, possibly occupying the last position.

In comparison, Tajikistan lags behind regional countries in mobile internet speeds as well, with Kazakhstan (54 Mbps), Uzbekistan (38 Mbps), and Kyrgyzstan (40 Mbps) performing better. The global average mobile internet speed stands at 62 Mbps, with the UAE leading at 442 Mbps, followed by Qatar at 358 Mbps and Kuwait at 264 Mbps.
