Iran and Oman Telecommunication Companies Sign MOU to Strengthen Data Transit Corridor

Iranian and Omani telecommunication companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance data transmission between the two countries. The agreement, signed by Pishgaman Company of Iran and Omantel of Oman at the Iran Corridor 2025 event in Dubai on February 3, aims to expand data transit capabilities between Iran, Oman, and Europe.

This MOU seeks to increase data transit capacity to 4.5 terabits per second, facilitating the creation of a secure and high-speed network connecting the northern borders of Iran to Europe and the southern routes leading to Oman and the Persian Gulf. By optimizing existing infrastructure, the project will reduce the time and cost of data transmission between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, offering an efficient alternative to longer marine routes.

Cooperation with Omantel will enhance Iran’s connectivity to international networks and global data centers, positioning Iran as a regional data transmission hub. The project also aims to attract investment into the Iranian IT sector and create job opportunities in the country’s communication infrastructure.

Held just before the Capacity Middle East conference, the Iran Corridor 2025 event showcased Iran’s communication infrastructure as a secure route for regional data transmission. The event emphasized advancing the Digital Economy by enhancing interconnected infrastructures across the region, highlighting opportunities for co-investment in interregional cable systems, and promoting technologies like AI, cloud computing, and secure communication systems.
