Iraq Launches Digital Transformation and Automation Center to Drive Technological Growth

Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, inaugurated the Digital Transformation and Automation Center at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on Monday. This step is part of Iraq’s broader digital transformation strategy, which is crucial to the nation’s plans for digital business growth and artificial intelligence.

Earlier, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) outlined that digital transformation is a central component of Iraq’s economic and administrative reforms, as well as the country’s shift toward electronic payments. In November, during a meeting with Deemah AlYahya, Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), Al-Sudani reaffirmed the government’s commitment to integrating digital transformation and artificial intelligence initiatives into Iraq’s national agenda.

Al-Sudani’s government is eager to collaborate with the DCO to foster digital transformation and AI programs that will benefit both Iraq and the broader region. The Prime Minister also discussed Iraq’s potential to lead in this area, underscoring the country’s readiness for a transformative shift.

In a significant moment in September, Al-Sudani met with AlYahya during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, where Iraq’s approval to join the DCO was celebrated. AlYahya noted that Iraq would soon begin implementing action plans following its formal accession to the DCO, gaining access to valuable expertise and training.

The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for AlYahya’s efforts in helping Iraq join the DCO, emphasizing the organization’s role in providing knowledge, capabilities, and guidelines to strengthen Iraq’s digital enterprises, especially in digital commerce.

Additionally, Al-Sudani discussed the Supreme Committee for Digital Transformation’s comprehensive plan for artificial intelligence and digital enterprises, which aims to further accelerate Iraq’s digital capabilities and foster growth in the tech sector.
