Algerian Government Invests 1.5 Billion Dinars to Propel Startups in AI, Cybersecurity, and Robotics

Algiers, Algeria | February 20th, 2025 — In a major step towards accelerating the country’s digital transformation, Sid Ali Zerrouki, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, officially inaugurated Algeria’s first-ever Skills Center on Thursday. Located at the former premises of Algérie Télécom in Sétif, this groundbreaking institution marks the beginning of a national initiative aimed at cultivating a skilled workforce to position Algeria at the forefront of the global technological revolution.

The newly established Skills Center is a key component of Algeria’s broader strategy to develop centers of excellence nationwide. These hubs will offer free, high-level training to young Algerians in cutting-edge technological fields, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), Cybersecurity, and other emerging disciplines within Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). This initiative aligns with the country’s vision to equip the next generation with the expertise needed to lead the nation’s digital transformation.

Minister Zerrouki emphasized that the Sétif center will serve as the cornerstone of a nationwide network of Skills Centers, designed to cultivate a talent pool capable of seamlessly integrating into both national and international digital ecosystems. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance the capabilities of young professionals, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the demands of the global digital economy.

Beyond individual skill development, the Skills Center will serve as a collaborative platform between universities and economic enterprises, bridging the gap between academic research and technological industry needs. The project is designed to stimulate scientific research, foster the creation of innovative solutions, and drive technological advancements that address both national and regional market demands.

In a bold commitment to fostering technological innovation and entrepreneurship, Minister Zerrouki announced a financial investment of 1.5 billion dinars to support startups focused on AI, Cybersecurity, and Robotics. This significant investment aims to bolster Algeria’s startup ecosystem, encouraging youth-driven innovation and the development of disruptive technologies that will contribute to sustainable economic growth.

“This initiative aligns with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision of empowering startups and creating a vibrant innovation ecosystem,” said Zerrouki. “The funding will fuel technological breakthroughs and generate new employment opportunities for Algeria’s youth, ensuring they play an active role in shaping the country’s digital future.”

As part of the event, several strategic partnerships were formalized to strengthen Algeria’s innovation landscape. Algérie Télécom signed framework agreements with the University of Ferhat-Abbas, Mohamed-Lamine Debaghine University, the Directorate of Industry, and the Sétif branch of the Algerian Council for Economic Renewal. These collaborations aim to further develop the startup ecosystem, promote entrepreneurship, and increase youth engagement in Algeria’s digital transformation efforts.
