The Independent Elections Committee (IEC) Chairman Musa Maaytah announced that digital identity cards will be accepted in the upcoming Parliamentary elections. Voters will be able to use the Sanad application to verify their identity, simplifying the voting process and encouraging greater citizen participation.
The Sanad application, launched in February 2020 as part of the government’s economic program, aims to support electronic services and enhance the business environment. Maaytah emphasized the importance of advancing digital transformation and urged citizens to take advantage of electronic services for the elections.
The IEC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurs and the Civil Status and Passports Department (CSPD), has developed a special mechanism to display digital identification information via the Sanad application at polling stations. This initiative is part of the IEC’s efforts to digitalize the election process, ensuring greater transparency and speed in voting and result procedures.
Maaytah also revealed that the IEC has conducted several training sessions for election committee members at polling stations to prepare for the digitalized voting process. The use of digital identification in the election aligns with the National Digital Transformation Strategy, further supporting the country’s shift toward electronic governance.
Both smart ID cards and the Sanad app-based digital IDs will be accepted during the election process, ensuring broader accessibility for voters.
