U-blox Transfers Cellular IoT Module Business to Trasna to Strengthen IoT Connectivity Solutions

U-blox, a global leader in positioning and short-range communication technologies, has announced the transfer of its cellular IoT module business to Trasna, a prominent semiconductor and IoT solutions provider. This strategic move allows u-blox to sharpen its focus on its core positioning business while enabling Trasna to bolster its IoT connectivity chip-to-cloud solutions in the OEM sector.

The acquisition includes u-blox’s intellectual property (IP) related to cellular module technology, its workforce, sites, and product portfolio. Trasna has committed to retaining all employees, customers, and operations, which strengthens its position as a comprehensive cellular IoT solutions provider. Trasna will now offer end-to-end capabilities in semiconductor chip design, SIM and eSIM manufacturing, and cloud-based remote SIM and device management services.

The cellular IoT market is projected by IoT Analytics to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15% until 2030, creating significant opportunities for Trasna. The acquisition enhances Trasna’s market reach, especially in the metering, medical, and industrial IoT sectors, by leveraging u-blox’s established OEM relationships and global distribution network.

For u-blox, the divestment marks a strategic shift to concentrate on its high-growth positioning (GNSS) business, reinforcing its leadership in the market and enhancing value for customers and shareholders.
