Space42 Confirms Thuraya Services Intact After Iranian Missile Strike on Sharjah Building

Space42 has confirmed that all Thuraya Telecommunications Company services and infrastructure remain fully operational following an Iranian missile strike on the Thuraya building in Sharjah on 7 April, with no disruption to services provided to customers and partners.

Two Pakistani expatriates were moderately injured in the strike and transferred to hospital for treatment. The attack occurred one day after Iranian missiles targeted the du telecommunications building in Fujairah — an incident MEA Tech Watch reported as the first confirmed strike on UAE telecom infrastructure — with no injuries recorded in that case.

The Sharjah Thuraya building had also been struck by a drone on 30 March, with no injuries at that time. Space42, which owns and operates Thuraya’s satellite communications services, said all operations are proceeding normally.

UAE’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that on 7 April alone, air defence systems engaged one ballistic missile and 11 UAVs launched from Iran. Since hostilities began on 28 February, UAE air defences have intercepted a cumulative total of 520 ballistic missiles, 26 cruise missiles, and 2,221 UAVs. Thirteen people have died since the onset of attacks, including two members of the armed forces and 10 civilians of multiple nationalities; total injuries have reached 221.

Editor’s Note: The targeting of two separate UAE telecom facilities — du in Fujairah and Thuraya in Sharjah — within 24 hours establishes a pattern that elevates the threat profile for UAE digital infrastructure well beyond isolated incidents. Watch whether TDRA or the UAE Ministry of Defence issues formal guidance on hardening critical communications infrastructure as the conflict continues.
