Lebanon Takes Major Step Toward Advancing Digital Education at High-Level Roundtable

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) and the Center for Educational Research and Development (CRDP), UNESCO organized a high-level roundtable titled “Digital Learning in Lebanon – Challenges and Opportunities.” The event, which gathered key stakeholders, focused on enhancing Lebanon’s digital education landscape through collaboration and innovation.

Prominent speakers included Maysoun Chehab from UNESCO, Imad Al-Achkar from MEHE, and Professor Hiam Ishak from CRDP. One key moment was the presentation of a study on blended learning in Lebanon during the COVID-19 pandemic, conducted by Statistics Lebanon. This study served as the foundation for further discussions on digital learning strategies.

The initiative aims to provide scientific evidence supporting the formulation of policies to address Lebanon’s educational challenges. It also seeks to contribute to the development of a National Digital Learning Strategy, in partnership with MEHE, UNESCO, and CRDP, supported by the Multi-Year Resilience Program (MYRP) funded by the Education Cannot Wait initiative.

Maysoun Chehab emphasized UNESCO’s commitment to integrating AI and digital learning into education systems in an ethical manner, and Mr. Al-Achkar highlighted the role of blended learning as a transformative tool for educational innovation. Professor Ishak discussed CRDP’s efforts in integrating digital education into national curricula and emphasized the need for public awareness regarding digital learning’s benefits.

This roundtable marks a significant milestone for Lebanon’s digital education journey, showcasing ongoing commitment to innovation, resilience, and inclusivity in the face of ongoing challenges.
