UAE and Egypt Sign MoU to Strengthen Arab Space Cooperation

The UAE and Egypt have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in peaceful space activities, marking a significant milestone in Arab space cooperation. The agreement was finalized during the 11th meeting of the Arab Space Cooperation Group and the “NewSpace Africa” conference in Cairo, with the UAE delegation led by Salem Butti Al-Qubaisi, Director-General of the UAE Space Agency.

Al-Qubaisi described the MoU as a key step in realizing the UAE’s strategic vision of space as a means for sustainable development, knowledge exchange, and innovative solutions to common challenges. He emphasized that this partnership with Egypt supports the UAE’s goals of investing in people, localizing scientific expertise, and fostering a competitive, innovation-driven economy—objectives that align with broader regional aspirations for stability and prosperity.

The MoU sets the stage for long-term cooperation between the two nations in civil space programs. It includes the exchange of expertise, research, and technology, as well as joint projects that contribute to both countries’ sustainable development goals. Planned areas of collaboration include satellite communications, navigation and timing, Earth observation, remote sensing, space situational awareness, and research in emerging and advanced technologies.

Additionally, the UAE delegation participated in the inauguration of the African Space Agency’s new headquarters at Egyptian Space City, an event attended by senior officials, ministers, and space leaders from across Africa.
