Oman’s Telecommunications Sector Shows Strong Growth in Postpaid and IoT Subscriptions by April 2025

Muscat — The telecommunications sector in Oman experienced significant growth by the end of April 2025, driven by a 5.8% increase in active postpaid mobile phone subscriptions, reaching 1,235,884, compared to the same period in 2024. Meanwhile, active prepaid subscriptions slightly declined by 0.6% to 5,280,057, indicating a consumer shift toward postpaid plans offering expanded benefits.

The Internet of Things (IoT) segment saw exceptional growth of 121%, with subscriptions rising to 1,552,577, reflecting increased adoption of smart technologies across logistics, industrial, and smart city sectors amid Oman’s digital transformation drive.

Overall mobile phone subscriptions in Oman totaled 8.68 million, marking a 12.3% year-on-year increase. Active mobile broadband Internet subscriptions reached 5.37 million by April 2025.

Fixed broadband subscriptions grew by 2.5% to 587,144, with fiber optic services rising 11.9% to 337,138 subscriptions. Fixed 5G subscriptions increased by 2.6% to 215,217, while fixed 4G subscriptions declined sharply by 36.9% to 21,103.

Traditional services saw notable decreases: ADSL subscriptions fell 52.6% to 12,536, satellite subscriptions dropped 44.8% to 368, and total active fixed-line subscriptions decreased by 0.6% to 439,662 compared to the previous year.

These statistics, released by Oman’s National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), underscore the country’s transition towards advanced telecommunications technologies and increased digital connectivity.
