Oman’s Telecom Sector Shows Strong Growth in Postpaid and IoT Subscriptions by April 2025

Muscat – Oman’s telecommunications sector experienced notable growth by the end of April 2025, with active postpaid mobile subscriptions increasing by 5.8% year-over-year to reach 1,235,884, signaling a consumer shift towards postpaid plans offering expanded benefits. Conversely, prepaid subscriptions declined slightly by 0.6% to 5,280,057.

The Internet of Things (IoT) segment saw exceptional expansion, surging 121% to 1,552,577 subscriptions, reflecting widespread adoption of smart technologies in logistics, industrial sectors, and smart city initiatives as Oman advances its digital transformation agenda.

Total mobile phone subscriptions in the Sultanate rose by 12.3% to 8.68 million, with active mobile broadband subscriptions reaching 5.37 million.

Fixed broadband subscriptions grew by 2.5% to 587,144, driven by an 11.9% increase in fiber optic services, now totaling 337,138 subscriptions. Fixed 5G subscriptions also increased by 2.6% to 215,217, while fixed 4G subscriptions dropped sharply by 36.9% to 21,103.

Traditional fixed-line services continued to decline, with ADSL subscriptions falling 52.6% to 12,536, satellite subscriptions dropping 44.8% to 368, and total active fixed-line subscriptions decreasing 0.6% to 439,662.

These trends highlight Oman’s ongoing transition toward modern, high-speed connectivity solutions as part of its broader digital transformation efforts.
