Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health Enhances Health Technology Assessment Capacity Through High-Level Workshop with LSE and Hoffmann-La Roche

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Qatar recently held a high-level workshop in partnership with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and Hoffmann-La Roche, aimed at strengthening national capabilities in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and health policy. This initiative supports Qatar’s National Health Strategy 2024–2030, specifically the priority to enhance the efficiency and resilience of the health system.

The workshop is a key step toward establishing a dedicated national HTA unit and developing a comprehensive assessment framework to enable evidence-based decision-making across Qatar’s healthcare sectors. These efforts align with Qatar National Vision 2030’s Human Development Pillar, emphasizing sustainable, data-driven, and patient-centered health systems.

Dr. Anas Hamad, head of the National HTA Unit Project, highlighted the project’s goal to systematically evaluate clinical, economic, and social impacts of health technologies to ensure optimal health value and sustainability. Dr. Ahmed Tawfiq of Hoffmann-La Roche stressed the importance of public-private collaboration to develop shared sustainability frameworks.

LSE’s Professor Elias Mossialos delivered a two-day intensive training program covering healthcare trends, disease prevention, economic evaluation, and value-based healthcare frameworks. The workshop provided in-depth knowledge on building an effective HTA structure, applying real-world evidence for informed policy decisions, and integrating economic evaluation into health policy.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Qatar’s commitment to innovation, efficient resource allocation, and resilient health system development.
