TF1+ to Launch Advertising-Supported Streaming Service Across 22 French-Speaking African Countries

French broadcaster TF1 plans to expand its ad-supported streaming platform, TF1+, to 22 French-speaking African nations starting June 30, 2025. This follows recent launches in Belgium, Luxembourg, and Switzerland, as part of TF1’s strategy to become the leading entertainment platform in francophone markets.

TF1 CEO Rodolphe Belmer revealed in an interview with Variety that the expansion aims to compete directly with Canal+, which has an established presence in French-speaking Africa and is extending into English-speaking regions through its Multichoice acquisition.

Additionally, TF1+ will introduce a micro-payment option inspired by mobile gaming models, enabling viewers in France from September 1 to watch shows like Koh-Lanta (Survivor) either with or without advertising per episode. This flexible monetization strategy is designed to diversify revenue beyond traditional linear and digital advertising.

In a surprise move, TF1 content will also become accessible to Netflix subscribers in France through a new deal, broadening TF1’s advertising reach. While details remain under wraps, Belmer confirmed the partnership will enhance TF1’s advertising market.
