Sharjah-based budget airline Air Arabia, in partnership with Saudi entities Nesma Group and KUN Holding, has received approval from the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) to establish and operate a new low-cost carrier based at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. The airline aims to enhance both domestic and international air connectivity for Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.
The agreement marks the culmination of a strategic partnership focused on delivering an efficient operating model that aligns with national aviation program goals, improves traveler experience, and supports economic growth in the region.
Air Arabia Group CEO Adel Al Ali expressed pride in the milestone, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to advancing Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector. The new carrier plans to operate 24 domestic and 57 international routes with a fleet of 45 aircraft by 2030, targeting to serve approximately 10 million passengers annually from Dammam and the Eastern Province.
The project is expected to generate over 2,400 direct jobs, boost tourism, and significantly contribute to local economic development.
Faisal Bin Saleh Al Turki, President of Nesma Group, and Mohamed Bin Nabil Hefni, CEO of KUN Holding, highlighted the initiative’s importance beyond air transport, viewing it as a key driver for tourism infrastructure and regional economic stimulation. They underscored the project’s alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 and its embodiment of public-private sector collaboration for sustainable development.
