Algérie Télécom Launches $11 Million AI Investment Fund to Boost Startups and Digital Innovation

Algérie Télécom, Algeria’s state-owned telecom operator, has established an $11 million (DZD 1.5 billion) investment fund to support AI startups, cybersecurity, and robotics. Announced at the third Algeria CTO Forum by Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sid Ali Zerrouki, the initiative is a key part of the country’s national AI and digital transformation strategy.

The fund aims to foster the creation of 20,000 startups, alongside government investments in AI-focused universities, innovation hubs, and a nationwide expansion of digital infrastructure. The broader goal is to enable AI to contribute 7% to Algeria’s GDP by 2027.

Algeria has recently intensified its focus on AI, creating a National Scientific Council for Artificial Intelligence and unveiling a 2025-2030 AI strategy. The strategy, led by the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Knowledge and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-Enterprises, is supported by a network of business incubators.

As part of the plan, “Scale Centers” have been launched to develop youth skills in AI, cybersecurity, and cloud computing. Investments are also planned for universities specializing in AI, robotics, and mathematics, and incubators are being established nationwide to accelerate innovation and technology startups.
