KUWAIT: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced the arrest of an international gang of African nationals accused of cyberattacks targeting telecom towers and banks in Kuwait. The investigation began after the Communications Authority reported cyber intrusions on communication networks.
Security teams traced the attacks to advanced electronic devices used to infiltrate networks and send fraudulent messages impersonating banks to steal account data and funds. The suspects were located following suspicious signals emitted from a vehicle in Salmiya. The driver attempted to flee but was apprehended after colliding with multiple vehicles and resisting arrest.
Searches of the vehicle and the suspects’ residences uncovered sophisticated electronic equipment and tools used for hacking and analyzing stolen data. Both suspects confessed to collaborating on the cyberattacks and were referred to competent authorities for legal proceedings.
Separately, the MoI’s General Department of Residence Affairs Investigations arrested 178 violators and wanted individuals during a widespread security campaign across all governorates. The campaign, directed by First Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, targeted residence and labor law violators in densely populated areas, emphasizing strict enforcement without leniency for workers or employers.
