MTN Group has announced a major leadership reshuffle, appointing group chief risk officer Ferdi Moolman as the new CEO and executive director of MTN South Africa, effective 1 November. Moolman succeeds Charles Molapisi, who will return to his previous role as group chief technology and information officer (GCTIO).
Molapisi’s tenure as CEO of MTN’s home market was marked by resilience through South Africa’s frequent power outages, which placed significant pressure on network stability. His successor, Moolman, brings extensive leadership experience, having served as CEO of MTN Nigeria for five years until 2021.
To support the transition, MTN Group VP for Southern and East Africa, Yolanda Cuba, will step down from her regional role to join MTN South Africa as deputy CEO and executive director, working closely with Moolman to accelerate growth and strengthen returns.
In parallel, MTN announced that the GCTIO role will be split from the chief of digital infrastructure. Current GCTIO and CEO of Digital Infrastructure, Mazen Mroue, will now focus exclusively on advancing MTN’s fibre and data centre business across Africa, while deepening partnerships with tower companies and pursuing network-sharing opportunities.
Further changes include Group Chief Commercial Officer Selorm Adadevoh, who will take on additional responsibilities for strategy and transformation. Meanwhile, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer Chika Ekeji will step down from the group executive committee to concentrate on emerging businesses.
The operator emphasized that the leadership restructuring is part of its broader strategic review, aimed at strengthening operational resilience, accelerating growth, and unlocking long-term shareholder value.
