HAVELSAN and Egypt’s AOI Sign MoU to Co-Produce Autonomous UAVs for African Market

Cairo – Turkish defense technology company HAVELSAN and Egypt’s Arab Organisation for Industrialisation (AOI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly develop and produce autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The collaboration will focus on local assembly and co-production, aiming to provide affordable, high-tech UAV solutions tailored to Egypt and the wider African market.

Speaking at the signing event, Dr. Mehmet Akif Nacar, General Manager of HAVELSAN, emphasized the strategic value of the partnership:

“We are happy to work with AOI. This partnership will not only bring new UAV technology to the region but also enhance local manufacturing capabilities and secure a strong entry into the African market.”

Major General Engineer Mokhtar Abdellatif, Chairman of AOI, highlighted the broader impact of the deal:

“HAVELSAN’s technological expertise combined with AOI’s manufacturing strength will help Egypt achieve its military and technological goals. This partnership is not just about production; it is a step toward technological independence and sustainable exports.”

The initiative aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 for Sustainable Development, focusing on attracting investment, meeting domestic defense needs, and opening new export channels.

HAVELSAN brings proven expertise in autonomous systems, with platforms such as BAHA, BULUT, and BOZBEY sub-cloud UAVs already deployed in real-world scenarios. The collaboration is expected to enhance the company’s footprint in Africa, while providing reliable, low-cost defense solutions for regional militaries.

Beyond the defense sector, the agreement is also seen as a step toward strengthening Türkiye–Egypt business ties and expanding Africa’s access to advanced UAV technology at competitive costs.
