Morocco Hits Record Highs in Mobile and Internet Penetration

Morocco’s telecommunications sector continued its upward trajectory in the first half of 2025, reaching historic levels in both mobile and internet adoption. According to the Department of Economic Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF), mobile subscriptions climbed to 58.8 million by June 2025, up 3.2 percent from the same period in 2024.

The mobile penetration rate soared to 159.5 percent, surpassing both last year’s 152.4 percent and the 127.1 percent seen in mid-2019. Although the growth rate has moderated compared to last year’s 5.2 percent, the sector remains firmly on a growth path.

Internet usage showed even greater momentum. Subscribers rose to nearly 41.2 million, representing a 5.2 percent annual increase, while internet penetration hit 111.8 percent—up from 104.8 percent a year earlier and a dramatic leap from 66.2 percent in 2019.

These figures reflect Morocco’s accelerating digital transformation, with improved infrastructure, broader coverage, and higher digital literacy driving adoption across both urban and rural areas. Strong connectivity is also underpinning the kingdom’s wider economic ambitions, enabling e-commerce, remote work, and digital government services, and positioning Morocco as a rising player in the global digital economy.

Morocco’s telecommunications expansion underscores not only the kingdom’s progress in modernization but also its readiness to harness digital technologies as a foundation for future economic development.
