Qatar Takes Key Role in Arab Preparations for ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026

Riyadh – Representatives from across the Arab ICT sector convened on August 31, 2025, in Riyadh for the second meeting of the Arab Working Group tasked with preparing for the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26), which Qatar will host in November 2026. The meeting was organized by the Arab League in collaboration with the ITU and Saudi Arabia’s Communications, Space, and Technology Commission.

The State of Qatar, represented by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), played a prominent role in the discussions, which aimed to coordinate Arab positions and ensure a unified regional stance ahead of this major global ICT event. Topics covered included public policy and legal affairs, administrative and regulatory coordination, digital policy and internet governance, and strategic and financial planning.

During the session, Qatar secured two leadership positions within the working groups. Engineer Hussain Abdulla Salatt, Public Relations and Communication Manager at CRA, was elected Vice-Chair of the Arab Working Group for PP-26, while Huda Ahmad Al-Korbi, International Relations Researcher at CRA, was appointed Vice-Chair of the Public Policy and Legal Affairs Working Group.

With PP-26 set to take place in Doha, Qatar’s hosting underscores international confidence in its ability to organize world-class events and demonstrates its commitment to advancing ICT cooperation regionally and globally.

The ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, held every four years, serves as the UN body’s highest decision-making forum, setting policies, strategic and financial frameworks, and electing ITU leadership. For Qatar, hosting PP-26 marks a milestone in solidifying its position as a leading hub for global ICT policy dialogue and sustainable digital development.
