Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform has signed a landmark partnership with the National Commission for the Protection of Personal Data (CNDP) to develop a national platform for responsible artificial intelligence (AI). The agreement, concluded on Thursday, also outlines the creation of a framework for a platform powered by a Large Language Model (LLM).
The accord was signed by Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, and Omar Seghrouchni, President of the CNDP. It sets out plans to design sovereign AI frameworks aligned with Morocco’s linguistic and cultural specificities, national legal environment, and digital identity requirements.
According to the ministry, the initiative will deliver secure, high-performance, and rights-respecting generative and conversational AI tools for citizens, businesses, and public administrations. By embedding ethical governance into its design, the project aims to strengthen public trust while advancing digital innovation.
Officials described the agreement as a strategic milestone in building a sovereign and responsible Moroccan AI ecosystem. It is expected to bolster the Kingdom’s position as a leading player in ethical AI development in Africa and on the global stage.
