Telecom operators in Bangladesh are grappling with heavy subscriber traffic at registration points as millions rush to complete mandatory SIM re-registration. According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), 7.33 crore SIMs have been re-registered out of 13.08 crore active SIMs in the market as of April 24.
With a significant number of SIMs still pending registration, major operators have requested more time to complete the process. Grameenphone has sought an additional two months, while Banglalink has asked for a one-month extension.
TIM Nurul Kabir, secretary general of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh, confirmed that operators have formally written to the regulator requesting a deadline extension to manage the high subscriber demand.
