Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, the Indonesia Technology Alliance (ITA), and Tsinghua University’s Wuxi Research Institute of Applied Technologies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish an AI Application Cooperation Center in Indonesia. The agreement, witnessed at Tsinghua University by the Deputy Ambassador of Indonesia to China, was announced during the 2025 China–ASEAN AI Ministerial Roundtable.
The collaboration aims to position Indonesia at the forefront of the AI era by fostering innovation, cultivating world-class talent, and localizing AI solutions across education, healthcare, and agriculture—sectors vital to national development and digital inclusion. The Center, expected to be operational early next year, will integrate Tsinghua’s expertise in applied AI research, ITA’s role in advancing Indonesia’s digital ecosystem, and Indosat’s extensive telecom infrastructure and sovereign AI factory.
As Indonesia advances its Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, AI is being recognized as a cornerstone for productivity, competitiveness, and inclusive growth. The initiative also sets the stage for deeper strategic cooperation between China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs (MoCDA).
Indosat’s President Director and CEO, Vikram Sinha, stressed the importance of practical, localized AI solutions to close resource gaps and empower Indonesians in healthcare, education, and agriculture. Tsinghua’s Zhang Bo highlighted the university’s long-standing AI research leadership, while ITA Chairman Justisiari P. Kusumah emphasized the importance of aligning innovation with national aspirations.
Vice Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, underscored that the partnership represents a significant step in Indonesia’s new technology era, combining government vision, industry leadership, and academic expertise to accelerate AI adoption at both regional and global levels.
