Muscat, November 5, 2025 — Oman is rapidly consolidating its position as a global gateway for digital connectivity, with Omantel at the forefront of this transformation. The telecom giant, together with Zain Omantel International (ZOI), is driving investments in cloud, data centers, and subsea infrastructure to support Oman’s ambition to become a major digital hub aligned with Oman Vision 2040.
The Middle East Global Carrier Community Meeting (ME GCCM) 2025, held in Muscat on November 3–4, brought together over 1,000 telecom and technology leaders from 50+ countries. Hosted by Omantel in partnership with ZOI, the event focused on the theme “Driving Digital Connectivity Together.”
Omantel’s Transformation and Strategic Vision
Over the last decade, Omantel has evolved from a traditional telecom operator into an integrated technology group, investing heavily in cybersecurity, cloud services, and digital infrastructure. Its transformation aligns closely with national priorities under Vision 2040, positioning Oman as a digitally advanced and globally connected economy.
At the heart of this strategy is one of the region’s most sophisticated wholesale ecosystems, comprising subsea cable systems, carrier-neutral data centers, and strategic global partnerships. Omantel’s investments in over 20 international submarine cables now connect Oman to Asia, Africa, Europe, and Australia, enabling low-latency, high-capacity data flows essential for cloud computing, AI, and digital content delivery.
Data Centers Powering the Digital Economy
Eng. Yasser bin Redha al Lawati, Director of Marketing and Domestic Operations at Zain Omantel International, emphasized Omantel’s role in enabling Oman’s data-driven economy. He highlighted the MC1 Data Center in Barka and the SN1 facility in Salalah, both developed with Equinix, as key enablers for cloud and hyperscaler services.
“Each subsea landing and data center supports digital growth and contributes to Oman’s Blue Economy,” said Al Lawati. “The same waters that once carried trade now carry data, linking Oman’s maritime heritage with its digital future.”
Regional Synergy Through ZOI
Through Zain Omantel International (ZOI), Omantel has expanded its regional footprint, combining its world-class infrastructure with Zain Group’s presence across eight markets and 50 million customers. This partnership creates a unified connectivity platform for global carriers, hyperscalers, and content providers seeking streamlined access to the Middle East.
Investor Outlook
For investors and businesses, Omantel’s strategic direction signals long-term growth opportunities across data infrastructure, digital services, and smart economy ventures. As Oman positions itself as a low-latency link between continents, Omantel’s investments are creating the digital foundation for regional innovation, cloud adoption, and economic diversification.
