Morocco to Build Renewable-Powered Data Center and New AI Institute in Dakhla

Morocco has announced two major projects that will position Dakhla as a future hub for digital innovation and clean energy: a 500MW renewable-powered data center and the launch of the Jazari Institute for AI and Energy Transition. The agreements were signed by the ministers of Digital Transition and Energy Transition alongside regional leaders of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.

The new “Igoudar Dakhla” data center will run entirely on a dedicated solar-wind hybrid power plant under the D4SD program. With advanced cloud infrastructure and natural cooling, it will offer hosting, storage, and data-processing services for both domestic and international clients—reinforcing Morocco’s digital sovereignty and rapidly growing data-center economy.

The second agreement establishes the Jazari Institute, which will train talent and support research in AI, IoT, and energy innovation. It will provide testing platforms, support startups, and advance applied projects in areas such as smart grids, desalination, renewables, and green hydrogen. Both projects support the region’s development strategy and Morocco’s broader goals for digital transformation, energy transition, and preparation for the 2030 World Cup.

Morocco’s data-center market continues to expand, projected to surpass $1 billion by 2030. These investments strengthen the country’s regional leadership in cloud, AI, and cybersecurity while creating high-value technology jobs and expanding national capabilities.
