Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan Advance Cross-Border Telecom Network Project

TNS-Plus and Turkmentelecom have agreed to jointly develop a new cable border crossing and integrate their national telecommunications networks, according to the Kazakh Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development.

The memorandum of understanding was signed in Astana during a bilateral meeting attended by Turkmenistan’s Minister of Communications Hajymyrat Hudaygulyyev, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev, and Vice Minister Doszhan Mussaliyev.

A joint working group will define the technical design of the new link, select the border crossing point, and prepare engineering and cost documentation. Major construction is planned to be completed within 12 months of the signing.

The initiative falls under the Protocol of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the two countries and has strong political backing. Once operational, the project is expected to significantly enhance regional digital connectivity, improve the quality of international communication services, and deepen telecom-sector cooperation between both nations.

Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have been strengthening collaboration in space technologies, telecommunications, and digital solutions since 2019 through regular consultations, expert exchanges, and information sharing.
